Heather Ware

“As a dancer my aim is to move people, to get people to feel through building an empathetic connection to the physicality of another. The connection between performer and audience is at the core of the work, which starts from a fascination for the possibilities of the dancing body, and explores how complex coordinations can affect how we experience emotion.”

At heart, Heather is a storyteller, and key to her creativity is the question; how can I allow people to live their own stories through what I am doing? By creating physical, musical and theatrical material from a shared backstory, my collaborators and I work at illuminating the personal, our own drives, and building a frame through which the audience is not only invited but encouraged to experience their own narratives through the work.

The work is not in telling our stories, but dealing with them together in real time. Asking those in the room: what do you need to be brave? The work is an ongoing, shape-shifting process, an exciting/liberating way of working that positions personal risk as a shared venture.

Canadian dancer/choreographer Heather Ware has been a core dancer of LeineRoebana in Amsterdam (Netherlands) from 2003-2017. In 2010 Heather was awarded de Zwaan (the Swan) for most impressive dance performance of the year for her role in LeineRoebana’s 172 Suggesties aan een lichaam. From 2015-2017 Heather was the recipient of a Nieuwe-Makers Regeling (new makers trajectory) from the Dutch Performing Arts Fund. Heather’s choreographic work focuses on the dialogue with (live) music and theatre, created in collaboration with musicians such as Jakob Koranyi, Oene van Geel, Mattijs van de Woerd, and theatre makers Laurel Green and Cora Burggraaf.
