Barbara England is an interdisciplinary artist working with live performance and installation. She is informed by years of dance training, a degree in biology and French literature, and post graduate studies in conceptual choreography. Recent works have been presented at Calgary’s Central Public Library, cSPACE King Edward, The Grand, Bella Concert Hall, and Sozo-vim (DE).
As an artist she is interested in finding ways to generate empathy by using the body as a site for public-private discourse. Her process often engages community participants and cross-disciplinary collaborators. Her work is indicative of a conceptual sense of humour and a scrutiny of the conventions of performer/watcher. For her, a performance is the final phase of an experimental process.
Barbara has studied and worked in Western Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal. She currently lives, works, and hikes around Calgary, Alberta (Mohkínstsis, in Treaty 7 Territory).
